TRACE is committed to advancing Sri Lanka's technology and innovation ecosystem by creating a dynamic environment that enables and empowers innovation, creativity, and next-gen products and services.
Established in 2013 by a group of Sri Lankan tech pioneers in partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka, TRACE is the nucleus of a wider innovation ecosystem connecting a plethora of stakeholders including the government, entrepreneurs, universities, private sector organizations, international bodies, and investors.
TRACE exists to be the catalyst and cornerstone of Sri Lanka’s technology and innovation renaissance. Since its inception in 2013, born from the vision of pioneering Sri Lankan tech entrepreneurs in partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka, TRACE has transformed from a revitalized heritage site into a vibrant, nation-wide innovation ecosystem.
Our purpose is to create and sustain a dynamic environment that empowers creativity, fosters next-generation technologies, and accelerates groundbreaking products and services that will shape the future of Sri Lanka and beyond. We are committed to bridging diverse stakeholders — from visionary entrepreneurs and academic institutions to government bodies, private enterprises, international collaborators, and investors — uniting them in a shared mission to ignite innovation and entrepreneurship across the island.
TRACE is more than a place; it is the nucleus of a transformative movement that nurtures talent, drives collaboration, and cultivates an enduring legacy of technological advancement and inclusive economic growth. Through unwavering dedication, we aspire to empower Sri Lanka to become a global beacon of innovation and creativity.
TRACE Expert City represents a remarkable transformation of Colombo's colonial-era Tripoli Market Square into a thriving technology hub. Established in 2013 with a $7 million investment, this nonprofit initiative successfully converted 13 British-built warehouse bays into 30,000 square feet of modern workspace. Located strategically in Maradana near transport links and universities, TRACE now hosts leading organizations like CodeGen and the London Stock Exchange Group, demonstrating how heritage architecture can be reimagined to foster local innovation and combat brain drain.
